Subject: Audacity
Rather than destroying the actual stereo effect by coping one channel over the other (thus creating a "dual mono" recording), why didn't you just split the channels in Audacity and add gain to the quieter channel to boost its level to match the other?

Notes

~ Used Audacity to copy the left channel over to the right channel as the latter recorded a few decibels quieter that the former.
